Already we’ve had questions relating to C Foil vs FCS, so here to clarify… It’s a good opportunity to clarify again the position of the International Nacra 15 Class Association, the existing C Foil Nacra 15 and the now available Fully Foiling Nacra 15 FCS. The World Sailing C Foil configuration of Nacra 15 will continue to fundamentally be the heart and core of the Nacra 15 fleet and the version sailed at foreseeable WS Youth World Championships. Fundamentally, the existing configuration of the Nacra 15 remains in a “C Foil” mode. This will continue to form the growing back-bone of all globally organised Nacra 15 racing. Importantly, this is also the position of World Sailing and for their annual WS Youth World Championship where wide participation is a key aspect of the inclusive regatta. Regarding the Youth Olympics, the conditions in Buenos Aires perfectly suited the C Foil Nacra 15. The mode of the Nacra 15 for the 2022 edition in Senegal is yet to be decided by Worlds Sailing.
The Nacra 15 FCS is an exciting option to ADD to current Nacra 15 action. Your IN15CA will work hard to ensure FCS is a welcome addition to, rather than a dilution of existing Global Nacra 15 fleet growth… Facilitating the future with the best of both Worlds…
What is exciting is the now available FCS (Flight Control System) version of the Nacra 15. Again, key to understand is it is just a further mode option and not a replacement. All Nacra 15s have been built to be “foiling ready” it’s just a conversion of foils and bearings. The hulls have been and are manufactured to be robust future-proof and are proving to be solid.
The IN15CA will also host specific European and World Championships for the Nacra 15 FCS. These events will either follow or be separate to the core “C Foil” Championship events. Therefore, complementing the existing, growing fleet rather than diluting…
Both Nacra 15 modes “C Foil” and FCS offer our youth stand alone excitement, fun and great racing and a fantastic pathway.
