Nacra 15 Open World Championships for 2019, Marseille, October 19th – 25th

Nov 10, 2018

We’re excited and happy to share the official announcement confirming our Nacra 15 Open World Championships for 2019, Marseille, October 19th – 25th. Also an outline for our International Nacra 15 Class Association endorsed 2019 European Super Series.

As our fleet grows we will endeavor to host our major Class led Championships in exciting, inspiring and enjoyable global locations… Our Open World Championships will be enhanced by on-going World Sailing Youth World Championships and every fourth year the Youth Olympic Games…giving plenty of competitive racing for everyone.

For 2019 the team at Yachting Club Pointe Rouge, Marseille, employing their considerable experience have stepped up to deliver us a fantastic end of season finale both on and off the water. All to be run from the same location as the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The venue of the Nacra 15 Worlds will be Stade Nautique du Roucas Blanc.

Clara Geiling, events coordinator YCPR: “We want to permit young sailors to sail on a future Olympic area and to compete with the best sailors in the World with a great nautic organisation. We organised the U23 Nacra 17 Worlds and we loved it!! We will now put all our abilities at the service of the young Nacra 15 sailors.”

Back in August 2018, we had the 1st hand pleasure of experiencing the great sailing conditions and the organisational skills Marseille and YCPR has to offer for the U23 N17 / FX / 49er World Championships. An event exposed to a testing racing breeze from 5-30 knots and variable sea states to match. Known locally for the mighty Mistral, local weather statistics do give us the best racing window in October so fingers crossed we’ll have a full schedule making true, worthy World Champions.

Titles to set your goals for will include 3 x Nacra 15 World Titles, under 16, under 19 and “Open”.

Combined with local knowledge we’ll be forwarding full event information, accommodation suggestions and additional handy help to make your participation as straight forwards as possible.

Our World Championships are planned to be the grande finale of key National major, multi-class youth events also hosting the Nacra 15 class forming the:

Nacra 15 European Super Series.

Six National events, your best four results to count:

2019

April, 12th-19th,                   RYA Youth Nationals, Weymouth, UK

May, 30th – 2nd June         Dutch Youth Regatta
June, 8th-10th                     Young European Sailing, Kiel, Germany
June 28 – July 1                   Swiss National Championships, Geneva.
Aug, 16th – 23rd                   French Championships, Brest.
Sept, 7th-8th                        Belgium Youth Championship.

Oct, 19th-25th                 Nacra 15 World Championships, Marseille, France

We are also exploring the Americas Super series and the Australasia edition too, details to follow!

Excitingly, with the forthcoming Nacra 15 FCS (Flight Control System) Full Foiling option, as a class we are looking to incorporate this development within our class without challenging our sailors to make a choice between the two available sailing modes. It’s our intention to support separate Nacra 15 FCS Full Foiling events.

With this in mind, the 2019 Worlds dates have been considered to allow entry to the long standing, follow-on Worlds event, Criterium de la Mediterranee, 1st – 3rd November. We are in current discussions with the organisers to include the Nacra 15 FCS, foiling mode.
Looking ahead too, we have a major Championship scheduled to join the 40 strong local Swiss Class in Summer 2020 to be sailed on the beautiful Lake Geneva.

Importantly, we welcome further Championship Event bids to further secure and enhance the growing Global Nacra 15 activity for 2020 and beyond.
All good!!..

Wishing you all the very best as the Southern Hemisphere fleets approach their busy racing period while here in the North we all wrap up to put in the hard yards of training over these winter months.

As ever your feedback is welcomed and we look forward to seeing you all out there…

Paul.
